It has been hilarious and challenging in equal measure. I thought I was a reasonably coordinated individual until I started this! I gyrate along with a lovely bunch of people who rose to the ultimate challenge when our teacher said a few weeks ago, 'I've entered us into a festival of dance in Glasgow'.
On Sunday five trembling souls buckled on our hip belts, threw off our shoes and, grasping our exotic veils in the recommended paperclip hold, followed our mentor onto the stage to dance to a capacity crowd.
It was the most exhilarating experience and we had such a cheer when we were done that my little heart (beating fiercely as you might expect in a lady only slightly fitter than Humpty Dumpty) filled up and almost overflowed. I kept a grip, though, and left the stage in a dignified manner to receive a huge hug from our beaming groupie.
We'd gone into the hall a loosely connected bunch of people and emerged a dance troupe, The Stirling Shajara Dancers. Wow!
Called for a quick shimmy with the wooden spoon when I got home. Fork Biscuits (recipe 25/03/15), buttery and crisp and only 105 calories a biscuit. Just what you need after a triumphal debut.
I ate two, oops.
