I was in Amsterdam last week, cold but Christmassy and some lovely food. And here I am back at the desk, looking out at the rain and wondering why I couldn't just have stayed in Holland and watched windmills. No bus pass entitlement in Holland of course which would be a major draw back but just think of all that stoneground flour! Anyway for Christmas I have made some mincepies and other goodies to wish you were here!
Wishing you joy in this festive season! I'm on the Christmas starting blocks. My lovely daughter and I have dressed Grandma's tree and I can no longer put off the moment when I shall have to encourage Mr mac'Bread into the loft to bring down the assorted trappings that make our home officially Christmassy too. I cannot, of course, hope to compete with some of the illuminations I see on my wanderings around the countryside although I have treated my cherry tree this year to a dressing of 50 multi coloured bulbs with 8 functions! I use the on all the time one; anything verging on flashing plays havoc with my equilibrium. To declare the start of my Christmas spirit and to mark the end of my 'new' bread challenge here is week 7, a Christmas Tree pull apart complete with a couple of yummy cheesy leaks! I was on my way into town yesterday and found myself sitting beside a window which had a wee problem. Trapped in beween the double glazing was a good three inches of water which floated back and forth with the motion of the bus. I suppose you'll all be too young to remember when decor of this kind was all the rage. Anyway the hypnotic undulations of the water kept me amused for the trip until I found myself thinking in an 'old' person sort of way that it is rather sad that young people don't know what words like 'undulations' mean. I can say this with certainty because if they knew what it meant, they'd understand the beautiful French word 'ondulé'. I love words that sound just like what they mean. Came home and thought 'young' thoughts while baking new bread 5, mini pannetonne whose undulating tops as they sat cooling on the rack were a joy to behold. |
